Explain
Fantasy Premier League scoring in terms of a school report card
Fantasy Premier League scoring is just a school report card filled out by a vengeful supply teacher who hates your choices.
You spend your August mornings obsessively researching potential, much like a Year 9 geography student desperately cramming the water cycle before a mock exam. Every Premier League match is a homework assignment where your chosen captain, usually some sulking striker from a mid-table side, marks your effort. If they score a goal, you get a gold star, but if they get a red card, you have clearly been caught cheating during a spelling test and are immediately sent to the deputy head. It is a system designed to ensure that no matter how much effort you put into your formation, you leave every weekend feeling like you have failed maths.
The assessment criteria are absurdly specific. You gain marks for a clean sheet, which is the football equivalent of remembering to bring your P.E. kit on the right day, but you lose points if your goalkeeper concedes, even if the ball was traveling at the speed of sound. Meanwhile, your bench is the equivalent of the kid at the back of the class who never does any work, yet somehow gets an A because the rest of the school was cancelled. By the time the final whistle blows, you are left staring at a screen of minus points, wondering why you ever thought this would be more fulfilling than just doing your actual tax return.
Where the analogy breaks downIn school, you do not lose marks because the person sitting next to you decided to have a bad day.
