Cryptocurrency in terms of Pokémon cards
Cryptocurrency is just like swapping shiny Pokémon cards in the playground at lunch.
You want to collect the rarest digital cards to show all your friends. Some cards are very famous like Pikachu, which is like Bitcoin. Other cards are brand new and nobody really knows if they will be worth anything tomorrow. You trade them on a special computer app instead of keeping them in a plastic binder under your bed.
Just like playground trading, you hope your card becomes super popular so you can swap it for more cards later. Sometimes you might trade a shiny Charizard for a dozen common cards that look cool but are actually quite dusty. If everyone decides the card is special, you feel very clever. If everyone loses interest, your card just sits there like a blurry picture of a squashed Pidgey.
You have to be careful because some kids will tell you their card is super powerful when it is actually just a piece of cardboard with a drawing. These digital cards are kept in a special invisible wallet on the internet. You do not get to hold them, put them in a sleeve, or use them to play a real game on a table. It is all just numbers on a screen that might go up or down.
Where the analogy breaks downPokémon cards are physical items you can touch, whereas cryptocurrency only exists as data on a computer network.
