Do penguins have knees in terms of a person in a very long coat
Did you know that penguins are actually hiding their knees under their very long, fluffy winter coats?
Think of a penguin as a funny little man wearing a thick, black and white winter coat that goes all the way down to his feet. Because his coat is so long and baggy, you cannot see his legs very well when he waddles about on the ice. He keeps his knees tucked away inside that warm, feathery layer so he can stay nice and toasty while he plays in the snow.
If you looked under that fluffy coat, you would find that he has knees just like you do. He uses his knees to bend his legs when he wants to jump or swim in the chilly blue sea. His legs are tucked up high under his feathers, like someone wearing a super long raincoat that covers their knees while they walk to the shops. He always looks like he is sitting down a little bit, even when he is standing up tall.
The penguin keeps his knees hidden so he does not get cold toes when the wind blows hard. He is very good at keeping his balance on the slippery ice because his legs are strong and tucked safely inside. He is just a very dapper bird who likes to keep his best features hidden under his favourite fuzzy winter suit.
Where the analogy breaks downA penguin cannot take off his coat, because it is part of his skin.
