Game of Thrones in terms of the Premier League title race
The Iron Throne is just like a really long, grumpy football season where everyone wants to win the golden trophy.
In Westeros, all the big families are like rival football teams fighting to be top of the league table. The Starks are like a club with a great manager who keep getting bad luck with referee decisions, while the Lannisters are the team that spends all their pocket money on the best players to make sure they stay in first place. Instead of passing a ball around on the pitch, they pass around sharp swords and scary dragons to see who gets to sit in the fancy chair at the end of the year.
Every time a team thinks they have won the title, someone usually gets a red card and has to leave the game forever. It is very stressful because there are no halftime snacks, and the fans in the stands are mostly just terrified of being squashed by a dragon. Even the players who try to play fair usually end up getting tripped up in the penalty box by a sneaky rival with a crown.
By the final day of the season, most of the best players are no longer on the pitch because they have all been sent off for being too naughty. The team that finally wins the trophy is often the one that managed to keep their best players hidden away in a cold castle until the last match. It is not exactly a fair sport, but at least there is not a boring draw.
Where the analogy breaks downIn the Premier League, you do not lose your head if you finish in second place.
