Procrastination in terms of a bin day reminder
Is your homework like the rubbish bin that stays full until the very last second?
Procrastination is exactly like waiting for bin day to roll around. You know the bin is overflowing with old crisp packets, soggy cardboard, and the weird bit of broccoli you promised to eat, but you decide to deal with it later. You tell yourself that tomorrow is plenty of time to clear it out. This is your brain putting off a job, just like leaving the bin by the back door while you play with your Lego instead of taking it to the street.
The problem starts when you see the bin lorry driving down the road. This is the deadline, like your teacher asking for your project or your mum asking if your room is tidy. You panic, grab the bags with sticky hands, and run outside in your pyjamas. You cram everything into the bin at high speed, hoping the lid will shut before the big, loud lorry reaches your garden gate. It is always a messy, rushed job, and you usually end up with bin juice on your shoes.
When the bin is finally empty, you feel great for five minutes. You think you will never let it get that full again, but by the very next afternoon, you are already throwing in another crust of bread and a scrunched-up drawing. You are back to the start, waiting for the cycle of panic to begin all over again. It is a very busy way to do nothing.
Where the analogy breaks downThe bin lorry will eventually take your rubbish away, but your homework will not disappear if you ignore it long enough.
