Star Wars in terms of a family argument at Christmas
Star Wars is just one big family argument at Christmas.
Think of the Galactic Empire like your Grumpy Grandad who insists on sitting in the best chair all day. He has a very strict list of rules for everyone to follow, and if you do not listen, he gets very cross indeed. Darth Vader is the uncle who shows up wearing a silly costume and keeps trying to tell you that he is actually your dad, even though he clearly is not. It is all very loud and quite exhausting for everyone else.
The rebels are like the cousins hiding in the kitchen to play with their new toys away from the grown-ups. They have to come up with a clever plan to sneak past the Empire to reach the treat cupboard. Luke is the young one who is still learning how to use his new light-up train set properly. He spends most of the day trying to find the magic battery pack that makes the whole thing work before the big dinner starts.
Eventually, everyone ends up shouting in the hallway while the turkey goes cold. There are lots of bright lights, strange noises, and people waving things about in the air. By the end of the evening, someone usually knocks over the decorations, and everyone is too tired to argue anymore. You just want to go to bed and hope that next year they stay home instead.
Where the analogy breaks downActual space battles involve way more exploding planets and fewer mince pies.
